Stellar’s Last Days: Junipers Mar9 I’m grateful for walking among ancient junipers with this marvelous companion for so many years. He gets tuckered out quicker than he used to, but he’s still always game for a walk in the woods. We haven’t been able to go to the rim for a month or so, since his episode in deep snow, but we were reminiscing this evening, and I promised him we’ll go soon, soon as the snow melts a little more and the mud dries a bit, enough to give us some dry ground to walk on. It’s remarkable that he’s made it through this winter: While hope can be a dangerous delusion, I did this evening dare to hope he’ll live to see another. I give thanks every morning that he wakes up alive and eager to go outside. I give thanks every day that I wake up alive to walk with these divine beings, Stellar and these ancient trees. Magnificent old trees and a magnificent old dog. Beautiful portraits of both.
